Kirk Hendrick plans to step down as chairman of the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) later this year after the upcoming legislative session ends.
Hendrick disclosed his intention to resign from the board on Wednesday. Previously, he notified Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo (R), who designated him for a four-year tenure as chairman.
The governor will designate someone to take Hendrick's place, but there has been no announcement regarding who it could be.
Hendrick did not give a reason for his resignation this week.
Major Accomplishments
While serving as chairman, Hendrick supervised the investigation into Resorts World Las Vegas, as reported by Las Vegas TV station KSNV. Authorities asserted that unlawful bookmakers gained access to the gaming establishment, and the inquiry ultimately resulted in the resignation of Resorts World President Scott Sibella, along with the cancellation of his gaming license.
A settlement was also reached with Steve Wynn regarding allegations of sexual misconduct during Hendrick’s time.
In his recent meeting with Lombardo, Hendrick stated in a comment that they had an "excellent discussion."
"[W]e discovered how much the Board has accomplished since he appointed me as chairman two years ago. We also discussed more to still be accomplished, including the Board’s priorities for the legislative session starting next month.”
“My announcement today allows Governor Lombardo time to find the next Board Chair and provides for a smooth transition of leadership. It also allows me to tell all the amazing Board agents and employees, as well as Nevada’s gaming industry, citizens, and visitors, that I am dedicated to accomplishing much more over the next several months.”
The NGCB oversees the regulation of gambling activities in Nevada. It examines grievances and applies applicable laws, in addition to managing licensing for gaming establishments.
Extended Career
Hendrick was appointed chairman of the NGCB in 2023. Prior to that, he served as the chief operating officer of the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship). He was also the senior deputy attorney general for the gaming division's office in Las Vegas and the chief deputy for the statewide gaming division.
Moreover, Hendrick served as the legal advisor for the Nevada Athletic Commission. He began his career approximately 30 years ago as a lawyer in Nevada.
Hendrick was raised in Las Vegas, where he finished his studies at Chaparral High School. He earned a degree from UNLV and a law degree from California Western School of Law located in San Diego, California.
Prior to Hendrick's term, Brittnie Watkins served as the temporary chairwoman after Brin Gibson's time as chairman.
